Word on the street is Kyle Busch will officially announce his new relationship with Joe Gibbs Racing this morning at 11:00 am EST. We discussed this move in NASCAR News on August 8th. Now that this is finalized, expect DEI, Gnassi, Childress and possibly Penske to be in the news regarding upcoming driver changes.

Also, big shout out to my buddies in NASCAR legal. They won a HUGE VICTORY yesterday with the appeals court in Atlanta. The 3 judge panel unanimously overturned a previous ruling allowing AT&T to brand the #31 car. In short, when NEXTEL joined the sport, they required an exclusive sponsorship position with the tracks, the teams and the sanctioning body. NASCAR agreed, but grandfathered the #12 Alltell car and the #31 Cingular car, so long as they remained the same. When Cingular “changed its name” (merged) to AT&T, they tried to change the branding of the car – even though the grandfather agreement between NASACR and the team (Richard Childress Racing) expressly forbid this. The current ruling is just for a temporary restraining order which makes them switch back to eth Cingular brand on the car until a formal trial on the issue can be held. More to come…
